K.K. Housing Complex, Makedonitissa
The Housing Complex consists of a house and two apartments and it is situated on a significantly sloping site.
Fundamental guideline of the design was the harmonious coexistence of the three units, securing at the same time the privacy and autonomy in the use of each unit.
The unobstructed view from all the three units towards the city, the bioclimatic approach, the balance of the shapes, the management of the soil morphology and the functionality, have constituted basic parameters of the design.
The complex attempts to offer a variety of different experiences of shapes, materials, light, shading, limits and views, while maintaining the morphological and functional simplicity.
Engomi Residence, Nicosia
Engomi Residence had three major design challenges: a) the creation of a well functional space, taking into consideration the relatively small size of the site, b) the introduction of environmentally efficient design elements, which can contribute to a pleasant micro-climate and c) the manipulation of a 'threshold' wall in the edge of the site.
The ground floor consists of three different units (living room, dining area, kitchen). All the functions are organized around a central veranda situated in the heart of the site. The basement receives light from two skylights which are placed in the direction of the garden area. The first floor has two units which are connected through a corridor-bridge.
The materials preserve their natural texture while being transformed in clean geometrical forms. It is worth mentioning that all the details of the building are treated as substantial elements of design, aiming at the most elegant architectural result.
House in Tala, Paphos
The House in Tala is located in a site with a slight inclination and a view to the sea. This residence is developed in three levels: basement, ground floor and first floor. The architectural design is based on a playful spatial configuration of different surfaces between the ground floor and the first floor. All the spaces are oriented visually and functionally towards the sea and the outdoor space which includes a swimming pool.
The simplicity of the forms which are produced, is balanced well with the texture of selected material details, such as the small additions of wooden and metal planes, displayed to selected parts of the building. The staircase, which has very pleasant natural light, connects the three levels and leads also to the multi-functional space of the basement. The basement is designed to receive natural lighting through a vertical skylight, a sculptural space that reaches the garden.
